Featured in Love is the Law magazine

My latest Illustration has been featured in Issue #1 of Love is the Law, which is now available to buy at Larache, London or email editors@loveisthelawmag.com for postal orders.

The theme of the Issue was Bohemian Noir I tried to combine the feel of my own practice along with my interpretation of the phrase to mean ‘darkly romantic.’  I’ll be honest I was slightly worried that I didn’t entirely understand the theme at first but I must of depicted it well as it got printed…YEAH!

Matchbox designs

Love is the Law magazine invited me to design promotional matchboxes for the magazine’s first ever  launch night of issue #1 on February 13th, shoreditch.

Matchbox Production; from initial drawings, monoprints, digital drawing to final prints and assembly, it’s a long process each final design is completed entirely using digital manipulation based on a single monoprint.

My finished matchboxes, I based my designs on the theme of Love/Valentine.

Shoreditch Sisters Womens Institute

I came across the Shoreditchs Womens Institute on the internet today and was amazed, happy and excited at their current project which i to raie awareness of  female circumcision by making 7×7 patchwork quilt patches of Vulvas.  I am definitely gonna get my sewing machine out and join, I can’t wait to see the finished quilt!

Article February 14th 2011  ”My first reaction when hearing of FGM was disbelief that something so cruel could really be inflicted on young girls. For those like me who hadn’t heard of it before, FGM stands for female genital mutilation, also known as or cutting.  The word used in Iran to refer to the procedure of FGM translates to English as “embroidery”; this planted the seed of out creative campaign which aims to draw attention to the atrocity of this practice and also to breakdown taboos surrounding the vulva. We have been compiling a collection of embroideries of ornate and luxurious vulvas! Made from the finest material and the richest colours, individual and elaborate embroideries on the finest silks and velvets to celebrate and glorify the vulva as it should be, as unique as a fingerprint. We hope this piece of work will achieve the main objectives of creative campaigning: to attract attention, shock and surprise, make an impact, subvert, inform, educate and to appear in the media. The message we will be trying to spread is that FGM is a human rights offence and a practice which must be erradictaed now. “
